The "Unicorn Kisses" from Fufú Café is our 7th hot chocolate that's part of the 14th Annual Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival. This exquisite drink intertwines taro and ube (purple yam) with 66% dark chocolate.

Taro and ube (purple yam) each possess a sweet, creamy, and nutty flavour profile that beautifully complements the aromatic hints of nuts and subtle gingerbread notes found in our Cocoa Berry 66% Mexique dark chocolate. This classic dark hot chocolate is elevated with a velvety topping infused with taro and ube (purple yam), and crowned with a dollop of Fufu's signature salted cheese foam. A delicate dusting of purple yam powder adds the finishing touch, creating a symphony of flavors and textures. Served with our Rice Flour Chiffon Mini Shortcake. It's a harmonious combination of taro and ube puree and a velvety layer of salted buttercream. The mini cake is topped with a light and airy taro and ube whipped cream and a vibrant sprinkle of powdered taro and ube, making each bite a truly enchanting treat.

First, I love the salted cheese foam on top. It's such a contrast to the sweet and creamy hot chocolate infused with taro and ube. The Rice Flour Chiffon Mini Shortcake is so soft and moist. Yum!

To complement this magical hot chocolate experience, we indulged in the Classic Soufflé Pancake and will be my go-to moving forward. The light and fluffy texture of the pancakes combined with sweet cream and syrup provided the perfect accompaniment to the rich and enchanting flavours of "Unicorn Kisses."

The Perfect Korean BBQ Combo at Royal Seoul House

Sundays are for good food and even better company, and today was no exception. After a soul-soothing Mass, we were drawn to the tantalizing aromas wafting from Royal Seoul House Restaurant, conveniently located just across the street from Fufú Café. The 14th Annual Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival would have to wait—we had a date with a sizzling BBQ combo that promised to elevate our Sunday lunch to new heights.

As we strolled into Royal Seoul House, the atmosphere was surprisingly buzzing with the hum of satisfied patrons. The menu boasted an array of options, but our eyes were fixed on the BBQ Combo C — an irresistible selection of marinated beef short ribs, sliced seasoned sirloin, beef belly, and pork belly.

The sizzle of the grill and the mouthwatering aroma of the meats signalled the beginning of our culinary adventure. The beef short ribs were tender and flavorful, the sliced sirloin boasted a delightful seasoning, and the beef and pork belly promised a symphony of tastes and textures.

Accompanying our BBQ feast was the delightful banchan—a collection of small side dishes that added a burst of flavour to every bite. From kimchi to pickled vegetables, each banchan perfectly complemented and balanced the meats.

As we savoured each bite, the wait for the hot chocolate festival across the street faded into insignificance. The two-hour wait seemed like a small price to pay for the culinary masterpiece we had enjoyed at Royal Seoul House.

 Happy Sunday! We made another delightful stop on our 14th Annual Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival adventure. Today's breakfast at Beaucoup Bakery features a Star Wars-inspired treat: "Java the Hutt." It was best to surrender to the indulgent side with this decadent mocha fondue special, playfully named after the infamous Star Wars crime lord.

A Chicken Lover's Diary: Popeyes Takes the Crown in Tenders and Nuggets

Picture this: It's Saturday night, and the only thing on my mind is satisfying my intense chicken craving. The choices are endless, but this time, my heart (and stomach) led me straight to Popeyes. While I've always enjoyed their signature chicken, this evening called for something different—tender, juicy, and bite-sized delights. So, Popeyes chicken tenders and nuggets it was!

Last week, I indulged in the crispy goodness of Church's Chicken, and the week before that, I savoured Taiwanese popcorn chicken at Redbeef Noodle. Each experience was unique, but Popeyes was calling my name this time.

Tantalizing Tenders

As I sank my teeth into Popeyes chicken tenders, I couldn't help but marvel at the perfect balance of crispy and tender. The seasoned batter clung to each strip, creating a symphony of flavours with every bite. It was like a culinary revelation—proof that not all tenders are made equal. The exterior was golden and crunchy, giving way to succulent, flavorful chicken that left me craving more.

Nuggets of Joy

Now, let's talk about those chicken nuggets. Popeyes has managed to elevate the humble nugget into a work of art. These bite-sized wonders were like little nuggets of joy, delivering a burst of flavour in every pop. Whether dunked in sauce or enjoyed on their own, each nugget was a testament to Popeyes' commitment to chicken perfection. This is shockingly better than McDonald's or any fast-food chain nuggets I have tried.

Signature Chicken Who?

Don't get me wrong, Popeyes' signature chicken was good. However, something about the tenders and nuggets stole the spotlight. With the crispy exterior and the tender interior, Popeyes had cracked the code to create chicken delights that exceeded all expectations.

And let's not forget the unsung heroes—Popeyes' onion rings and fries. They were the perfect companions to my chicken feast. The onion rings had the ideal crunch, and the fries were perfectly seasoned.

In the world of chicken cravings, Popeyes emerged as the reigning champion on that Saturday night. The tenders, the nuggets, the sides—it was a feast fit for a chicken enthusiast like me. So, if you find yourself in the midst of a chicken craving, heed my advice and make your way to Popeyes. Your taste buds will thank you.

Miso Wagyu Steak from Haraheri Eat Bar & Patio

I have been to many Japanese restaurants in Vancouver. However, this was the first time I felt transported to Japan and completely forgot that I was in Canada for a moment. That's what I experienced at Haraheri.

After enjoying the hot chocolate at Honolulu Coffee, I quickly searched Google Maps to recommend the closest restaurant. It suggested Haraheri Izakaya. I checked the menu pictures and saw Japanese curry (my favourite). Unfortunately, when we got to the restaurant - the menu had changed, and there was no curry. 🥹 Apparently, curry is only served during lunch.

Because there was no curry, I chose the Crab & Unti Carbonara while hubby went for the Miso Wagyu Steak. For sharing, we also ordered the Tori Karaage. The food was divine.

The fettuccine carbonara base sets the stage with its rich and creamy profile, featuring al dente noodles that provide a satisfying chewiness. The addition of sea urchin roe, or uni, introduces a luxurious taste of brininess, sweetness, and nuttiness, creating a sea-infused essence that enhances the dish's overall umami. Tender and flaky crab meat contributes a sweet and delicate seafood flavour, harmonizing seamlessly with the carbonara's richness. Shaved Parmesan brings a sharp and salty kick, melting into the warm pasta and adding depth. It's amazing.

However, the Miso Wagyu Steak is even better! The Wagyu flat iron steak, known for its marbling and tenderness, serves as the perfect canvas for this culinary masterpiece. The red and white miso marinade adds depth and complexity to the steak, infusing it with savoury, slightly sweet, and fermented umami.

Many Japanese customers were speaking Nihongo with the servers. My brain thought we were in Japan because, for a minute, I was smiling to myself, thinking, "Oh. Look. There are Caucasian tourists here." It's like a brain fart. Then, I realized that I was in Vancouver! Of course, there's going to be Caucasians. But that's the experience I got at Haraheri. Delicious food and great ambiance.

We continue our Greater Vancouver Hot Chocolate adventure by visiting Honolulu Coffee in their Downtown Vancouver location, where we escaped the pouring rain to enjoy warm, creative, and indulgent Snow-Coco ad Calli-Coco.

Jungle Curry from Talay Thai Restaurant

 Happy Thursday! It's team lunch, and the theme is potatoes. Since we missed Thai food last week because of the snow, we decided to order it this week. We got it from Talay Thai Restaurant, delivered by UberEats. I chose Jungle Curry under the menu's Special Talay Thai Dishes section.

Jungle Curry is different from my usual green curry. The heat factor is unapologetically more intense, as it embraces its spicy nature with gusto, delivering a fiery kick that leaves a lingering warmth on the tongue. Other than the heat, the core of this culinary masterpiece is the finger root, known locally as ka chai, which imparts a unique earthy and aromatic essence to the curry.

A true central northeast Thai curry prepared with finger root (ka chai) and special Thai herbs. Your choice of chicken, pork, or beef. Ask to have it mild if you can't take real Thai hot curry.

I enjoyed this with steamed coconut Thai rice, which absorbed every spoonful of sauce. Yum!

Fudge Brownie Latte from Tim Hortons

Happy Sunday! We shared a Fudge Brownie Latte from Tim Hortons with our breakfast this morning.

It has a rich and indulgent chocolate flavour, similar to the dense and sweet taste of fudge brownies. It reminded me of the Marble Swirl Hot Chocolate but with the addition of espresso.

Spicy Fried Chicken from Church's Chicken

Happy Saturday evening! We didn't get HelloFresh this week, so I ordered fried chicken instead. It took me what feels like forever to decide whether to get KFC or somewhere else and, if elsewhere, where.

After checking DoorDash for chicken, it suggested so many options. In the middle of the list is Church's Chicken. They have decent gravy, so I went with them.

We got the 20-piece chicken with two large gravies and large French fries. It's a happy night. 

Reheating this will be perfect in the air fryer. Yum!

In 2022, I wrote a post listing down Rogers Arena concession menu and prices. I'm creating this new post as an update. We watched the game between the Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes on January 18, 2024, to get this information.

If you find the prices inside Rogers Arena too much, there's a nearby Costco, and the food court is accessible even without a membership, but they only accept MasterCard as a payment method. Check the Costco food court menu here.
