A Night at Nat Bailey Stadium: Hot Dogs, Home Runs (and Lessons Learned)

The spring sun was bright and intense as I left work today, and the call of baseball echoed in the air. With the Vancouver Canadians taking on the Everett AquaSox at Nat Bailey Stadium, a short walk from Queen Elizabeth Park, I decided to soak in the atmosphere of Minor League Baseball.

After snapping a photo of the menu, the pre-game hunger pangs set in. My husband went for the "Nathan's Combo" – a classic pairing of a Nathan's All-Beef Hot Dog and a side of Cavendish French Fries. It's a reliable stadium staple, offering that familiar ballpark flavor that never disappoints.

Seeking a vegetarian alternative, I opted for the Veggie Burger. Unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. While I understand the logistical challenges of stadium food, the burger itself lacked the kind of flavor and creativity that can elevate a veggie patty beyond "just plant-based." A drizzle of sauce, a touch of seasoning, or even some interesting toppings could have made a world of difference. Perhaps this is a friendly nudge to Nat Bailey Stadium to consider expanding their vegetarian options in the future!

The game itself didn't go the Canadians' way, as the final score saw them fall 6-2. We decided to head home at the top of the 8th inning, thankfully with a quick 10-minute bus ride back to our place. While the veggie burger wasn't a home run, the overall experience was still enjoyable. The thrill of live baseball, the energy of the crowd, and the beauty of a spring evening under the lights made for a memorable night.
