Loblaw's City Market: A Calorie-Conscious Lunch Adventure

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Today's lunch adventure took me across the street to Loblaws City Market. They offer a convenient selection of ready-to-eat meals, perfect for busy days. The best part? You can choose your protein and two sides, allowing for healthy customization.

Since I'm always curious about calorie counts, I used that information to guide my choices today. My main course was the teriyaki chicken, a surprisingly light option at 260 calories per slice. It featured tender grilled chicken coated in a mild teriyaki sauce. While a bit unexpected, the orange slices added a touch of sweetness, and the green onions provided a welcome pop of freshness.

For my first side, I opted for Greek potatoes (70 calories per 110 grams). Now, the name had me curious —how exactly does a potato become Greek? Were they imported from Greece itself? The mystery continues, but the reality was roasted potatoes topped with Italian parsley and a Greek blend of spices. While decent, they lacked something special. A dollop of tzatziki sauce or a creamy feta drizzle could have elevated this dish.

My second side was the green beans with almonds (40 calories per 85 grams). They were exactly as advertised — green beans with a few slivered almonds. While a healthy option, they lacked seasoning. A sprinkle of lemon, pepper, or garlic would have made them better.

In all honesty, prioritizing low-calorie options didn't necessarily translate to flavour explosions today. However, that's the beauty of Loblaws City Market's selection – plenty of other dishes are waiting to be explored! Next time, I might prioritize flavour over calorie count and see where my taste buds take me.

Have you tried the meals at Loblaws City Market? What are your favourite protein and side combinations?
