A Taste of Greece in Yaletown: Moussaka at The Greek

Today's team lunch took us on a delightful trip to Greece, all within the heart of Yaletown! We ventured to The Greek. I chose the Moussaka. This dish was pure comfort food, featuring layers of savoury eggplant, zucchini, potato, and a rich combination of beef and pork.

But the deliciousness didn't stop there. The Moussaka came accompanied by a refreshing Greek salad, bursting with the colours and tastes of the Mediterranean: tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and onions, all brought together with tangy capers, salty olives, and creamy Greek feta. Freshly baked pita bread, slightly charred to perfection, was the perfect accompaniment. Dipping the warm pita into the cool tzatziki sauce (a delightful blend of yogurt, cucumber, garlic, and herbs) was a match made in heaven.

And let's talk about that pita bread with the Moussaka! It was the ultimate flavour booster. Soaking up the creamy bechamel and savoury meat sauce was pure genius. It's these little details that elevate a dish from good to incredible.

Confession time: It has been over a decade since I last indulged in Moussaka. This trip down memory lane was a resounding success. The Greeks delivered a genuinely authentic and satisfying experience – a perfect escape to the Aegean without leaving Vancouver.
