Third Time's the Charm: Exploring the Flavours of Greek Day on Broadway

Happy Sunday! We started this foodie weekend with SummerCamp Ribs & Music Fest last Friday and Pinoy Festival yesterday. Today, we walked to Macdonald Street and West Broadway for Greek Day on Broadway. It's the third consecutive year we decided to join the fun.

Chicken Souvlaki from Greek N' Go Food Truck

Our first stop is a food truck called Greek N' Go. We ordered a chicken souvlaki, a skewered and grilled meat dish with origins dating back to ancient Greece. Traditionally, souvlaki was made with lamb or pork, but today chicken is a popular variation. Greek N' Go's version featured tender, juicy chicken marinated in a blend of herbs and spices, a hallmark of Greek cuisine. Served with warm pita bread and cool, refreshing tzatziki sauce (made with yogurt, cucumber, garlic, and dill), it was a comforting and flavorful first bite to kick off Greek Day on Broadway.

Lamb Gyro from Messinian Brotherhood of BC

The food served by the Messinian Brotherhood of BC is catered by Sheila's Catering Co. We ordered a Lamb Gyro, a close cousin to the doner kebab. Both dishes consist of seasoned, layered meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. While gyros are typically made with a lamb and beef mix, Messinian Brotherhood offered a delicious all-lamb version. The perfectly seasoned meat was a delight, and the fresh vegetables and sauce added bursts of flavor and texture. The only downside was the pita wrap, which was a bit hard and couldn't quite contain all the deliciousness inside.

Milfey from Parthenon Food Market

Parthenon Food Market is a grocery store that focuses on products imported from Greece and boasts shelves filled with ready-to-eat desserts all made in store. With so many tempting options, we opted for Milfey. This delightful pastry, with its origins on the island of Milos, features a light and flaky puff pastry crust encasing a smooth and creamy vanilla filling. It was the perfect sweet ending to our savory Greek Day adventure, offering a textural contrast and a touch of cool vanilla flavor before our walk home.
